Conception is an essential part of success in pregnancy, but is often denied the attention it deserves when preparing for baby.

When is the best time to conceive?

  • From a physiological perspective, the best time to conceive is when you are fertile.

You are fertile around ovulation which occurs approximately 14 days before menses in women who have 28 day cycles. However, cycles of 24 to35 days are considered normal (Williams, 2001).

You will be able to determine your fertility by observing thickening (increased viscosity) in vaginal mucous which facilitates the movement of sperm.

Research by Wilcox et al (1995) found that intercourse a day after ovulation did not result in any pregnancies while intercourse on the day of ovulation or two days prior to ovulation had 35% chance of conception.

  • From an emotional stance, it is best to conceive when you are feeling relaxed, happy, loved and in love.

These emotions not only create magical beginnings for baby, but they are also nourish your body and enhance your sense of security, optimism and openness….all of which support conception and success in pregnancy.

  • Spiritually, or from the perspective of the Law of Attraction, it is best to conceive when you are inspired to do so.

You may find yourself with the very strong urge from within to take action (make love) at a particular moment…coupled with a sense of the ‘rightness’ of this action…and a peace and joy around the possibility of conception.
